April 15: There is snow in Ecuador

Man, the weeks are starting to feel like days, and the months are starting to add up. Having hit my 6 months on Wednesday, I am especially grateful to be where I am at now, and not starting. I am at that point where I am comfortable speaking to anyone and getting my point across. It is a true blessing that the Lord blesses his missionaries because I am not very smart haha.

Also this week we ate giant worms called chontacuro. They were cooked but next week we are going to eat live ones. Honestly I thought they didn't taste too bad.

Today for our P-Day we woke up extra early and took a 3-hour bus ride South of Quito to hike the second tallest volcano in the world. The whole drive up through the mountains to the volcano, Cotopaxi looked exactly like Yellowstone National Park and was absolutely gorgeous. We had a private guide show us the way and helped us throughout our 3-hour hike. It was super super cold, it was snowing on us the whole time, and I definitely didn't have the proper gear for the cold - well because I'm in Ecuador. We finally made it to a peak where there is legit snow and ice at about 17,000 feet. It was super steep, and slippery so only 3 of us touched the snow and I was one of them. Because it was so slippery all 3 of us lost our balance and fell down the steep mountainside for some time. But it was super great to see some beautiful snow since of course, Utah got so much this year.

We have a large pool of people to teach, it's so cool to see the progress that we have made since we started off this area with not a single person. We easily have 5 families that are all progressing and we are excited to put them on date and bring their lives in harmony with Christ. We call this transfer the harvest because we are starting to harvest all our hard work. It's fun to see.

A scripture that I read this week and liked was in the Book of Mosiah 14 but is from Isaiah 53
.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we, like sheep, have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquities of us all.

I hope everybody has a good week.

Lots of love.
